FIGHT OR FLIGHT

Damn, the last two hours of Grey's until probably October. I wish I had a time machine. Of course I would use it to do really important things, like go back in time and stop whoever it was that invented the mullet. Then I'd go forward in time and make sure I didn't turn into an a**hole in my old age. I would also see if jelly shoes ever came back in style, I loved those. Oh, right, my point, I would fast forward to October or no, late September so I could see both this and LOST.

Okay, I'm back from my trip to la la land. I mean, I live in la la land, come people just call it L.A. Thank you. Thank you, I'm here all week. Anyway, let's get onto the show. Last we left our trusted doctors, Izzie cut Denny's LVAD cord because Burke was on his way and dear sweet and lovely Burke got shot by the crazy fast food worker in the ambulance bay.

As Meredith does her monologue, helped out by the other cast members, except Dr. Bailey (what's up with that?), we're over Dr. Burke, as Bailey works on him. Not really sure where the shooter went. This guy is like a Ninja. First he disappears after shooting up twenty or so coworkers and bystanders, now he's gone after shooting up the front of a hospital. Maybe he's a spook. Maybe he's the guys trying to set up Lincoln on Prison Break. Regardless, as the monologue progresses, I'm starting to feel a little nervous. Burke's not moving. Not only is he not moving, but his eyes are half closed in that death stare. That's not good. I stick by my rule though that there's no way this showrunner is going to allow the guy to be killed off. Luckily as Meredith finishes talking about fight or flight, we learn Burke's a fighter, and he comes to life, looking around.

Seriously, I want to crawl in bed right next to him

Up in Denny's room, Izzie's cut the wire. Denny's having a little reaction to his heart pump being turned off, you know, he's dying. George doesn't think this is a good idea and questions what they're supposed to do. He wants to call a code and have all the nurses run in. Since this isn't going to get Denny the heart, trailer trash Izzie comes out and tells him not to go anywhere. Or better yet, stay or go, but don't call the code. At some point we're reminded that Alex is still at the other transplant, staring Dr. Hahn down, ready to pounce on that heart of Denny.

Christina finally makes it down to the ER and realizes sh*t must have just gone down. She doesn't know that Burke's been shot, and Bailey assigns her to another patient, who is actually the shooter. So they did get him. Oh wait no, it's a murder suicide. He shot himself. This causes Christina to get all happy and gooey inside. Since all the good surgeons are working on Burke, they're letting Christina run the code. Hey, I can't say anything about this, that's what I would do to the bastard who just shot my friend.

As Christina works on the guy, Derek is paged to Burke's room. He seems a bit altered. Burke not Derek. He's sitting up, yelling, wonder what the hell he's doing lying on the bed when there's patients to be saved. They're trying to make him lay down and it's then we realize he was shot in the shoulder, and his arm isn't moving. That can't be good. Especially if he's right handed. And since most Americans are, let's assume he is too. Apparently Derek didn't get the 'Don't tell Christina' memo, because when he comes into the room he shoots the door open full force, so Christina's able to see inside and notices it's Burke laying there. She runs in and is a bit dazed. They force her out, saying they can handle this. She then runs into the shooters room and starts trying to resuscitate him, since it's so much worse to be a vegetable then to just die. For once the doctors are thinking about the legal repercussions of their actions and she claims she wants to tell his family she did everything she could to save him.

It seems the bullet's stuck in Burke's shoulder. In fact, Derek theorizes it's close to his spine. They'll have to do tests to see. Christina makes it back in the room after what we assume is rescuing the dying shooter. Bailey tells her to leave and she wants to talk to him. Luckily he wants a word with her to and has them leave. She tells him that she knows he's sorry for not letting her in on the transplant, and that's okay. Damn, forget about him just wanting to say "I love you". But that's not what he wanted to say, he wants her to go up and check on Denny. She's taken aback and assures him that that was her best try and being a supportive girlfriend. As we'll see in the rest of the finale, she's right, that was her best try.

With the vajayjay doctor, the Chief's wife, Adele is there with their niece. She was at prom and she cashed in her V-Card with her boyfriend. Personally I get frequent flyer miles with my V-Card. Apparently the niece, Camille, was having sex with her boyfriend and passed out. Two of her girlfriends, and her boyfriend are there. Adele doesn't want Addy to say anything because the Chief will freak out if he knows Camille was doing it, not to mention the hurting he'd put on the boyfriend.

Now it's about that time that all our interns are reunited. In Denny's room, Izzie's pumping what I can assume is Denny's heart. I'm thinking it's what the LVAD was doing before she cut it. Now she can control it. Meredith walks in because George paged her, and Christina walks in because Burke sent her up there. I don't know what kind of half assed job these nurses are doing, but they suck. Why haven't they checked on the guy yet, and don't they wonder why his blinds are closed. I guess they know Izzie's in there and they aren't so hard on her like Bailey. Izzie's doing her crying thing and insisting everything will be okay when Burke gets there. Oops. Christina's able to break it to her that Burke was shot. There goes your plan Einstein, what are you going to do now? I guess she could sit there and pump his heart until Burke's better. I think she'd do that too. Everyone starts yelling and freaking out, Izzie thinks she's definitely killed him now. Meredith yells for everyone to shut up, that Denny's not going to die. Everyone appreciates this, including Denny who's heart is being pumped by his lovesick upset girlfriend. He also thinks that it sounds like Meredith has a plans.

Outside of Camille's room, Addison wonders about her parents. Yeah, I'm wondering that too. Apparently her mother is liable to freak out when she knows her daughter’s in the hospital. Down the hall we see the Chief coming towards them. Adele tells the boyfriend to get out of here. The Chief thinks Adele came to see Burke and he gives her a quick download until he sees Camille. He wonders what's going on and Adele starts to talk about how most girls have lost "It" already. He freaks out, not wanting to think about his niece losing "It". Addy comes up and says she's stopped the bleeding, but she's still concerned. The Chief admits to her that Camille had ovarian cancer a few years before and they removed one of her ovaries, and that all her check ups have been clean ever since. They still have to do testing, and Addison gets one of those "uh oh" looks on her face. Either that or she has gas. The Chief spots Camille's boyfriend and chases him down the hall.

In Denny's room Meredith's plan has to do with them doing the Echo themselves. I'm not really sure what the Echo is but I know it's some sort of heart test. The only person who's done this is Christina, Burke showed her once. Do you think they were both naked, chasing each other around the room with it? Christina plays like she's not involved, when we know she wants to do it. She tries to take the moral high road and bash Izzie for falling in love with a patient. Hi, kettle, it's pot, you're black. They all argue about falling in love with patients, as opposed to attendings, and poor George just fell in love with his best friend. Who hasn't been there, right?

In with Burke, Derek notices that his hand is cold. Burke tries to play it off, saying his hands are always cold. If ever they needed Christina it's now. Suddenly, all the bells and whistles go off and Burke passed out. They stab his chest with a needle. His lung collapsed for whatever reason I don't know. He was shot in the shoulder. He wakes back up and Derek tells him what just happened.

Alex and Meredith are on the phone and Alex is surprised Burke's shot. He must not have watched last night. Meredith wants him to stall Dr. Hahn as long as he can, and I'm thinking of one way Alex could stall her. And from the looks of her she'd jump at the chance. Meredith tells him to do it for Izzie. Oh, that registered. He still has a thing for her. Who doesn't have a thing for her? I have a thing for her!

As Camille gets her ultrasound from Addy, her friends, stand with her, wondering how her first time was. She talks about how wonderful it was and I'm not convinced this was her first time. As she's explaining how magical it was, Addison gets a look on her face that can't be good. She wonders if she's been feeling okay, before this. The girls say that yeah, she's been fine, but Camille just gives Addison the look. She admits that she hasn't been fine for about a month, and she didn't want to tell anyone because she didn't want to be that girl at prom with cancer. Now she'll just be that dead girl, but whatever.

Addy and Adele have a heart to heart about their first time. Adele can't remember the details I guess because it was sssooo long ago. Addy can remember but just wasn't because it was bad. And then came good, and then came really good. I'm assuming she's talking about Derek but who knows with this one. Adele wonders if Camille is going to be able to enjoy a really good one, and Addison just shakes her head.

That's an ultrasound machine. I guess it's also called doing an "echo"

In with Denny, Izzie apologizes to Christina for getting her into this. Christina's still pissed, but isn't leaving. Christina wonders how much she even knows this guy. I wonder that too, until I look at his dimples and realize I don't care. Christina thinks that for her career, a sane person would have run the other way. Denny is able to be conscious enough to say that a "sane person would marry me". Holy crap, did he just propose to her? I believe he did. Hot! She freaks out a bit, wanting him to repeat what he said. But since he's near death, he can't. In fact, he flatlines and they have to revive him.

In with Hahn, she looks a bit disappointed that Burke's alive, since he would have made a good donor. Yeah he would have, that would be been an awesome heart, but his black ass is staying on the show thank all vajayjays. He tries to convince her to not do anything but because she's a bitch, she just cuts into the patient and tells him "too late". Damn, that was harsh.

Down in the waiting area, the entire Seattle Grace High prom is in the waiting room. Camille must have been a popular girl, which says volumes. The Chief sees this and is thrown by so many teenagers. He starts kicking them out, at which point Camille's friends try to defend everyone being there. The Chief says that people are sick and dying and the girl makes some comment about knowing that people are dying, you know, like her best friend.

In with Burke, they've discovered that he has a some aneurysm thing on his nerve. If they don't operate it could go away, but it could also damage his nerve, which would be bad for the whole surgeon angle he's working with Christina. If they did the surgery, it could do the same thing. Burke wonders if Derek can do it and he's not his usual self assured, "I operate on brains" self. He's not sure if he can do it and they have a moment when they're not seeing how far the other one can piss and Burke's torn on what to do.

Uh oh, she has the finger and the head thing going

Adele finds the Chief in the hall and is furious he told Camille's friends to leave. He thinks she's just being emotional and uh oh, never tell a woman that, it just makes her more emotional. All you men write that down. She tells him that she just told her sister that her daughter has cancer again and that if he doesn't want to bend the rules for Camille, to bend them for her, because she's earned it. You know, with all the long hours, and him always at the hospital. Oh, and that having an affair thing. Oh snap, I didn't realize she knew about that. She says that when "that woman" left him she was the one who got him sober, and that she stayed with him when everyone said she should leave. Damn! She then tells him to make it up to Camille or find another place to sleep. You go girl!

In the hall, Addy's trying to talk to Derek, who ignores her and quickly goes into the lounge. Why she couldn't follow him I don't know. I guess that door slamming in your face thing deters you. In there with him is the Chief who's sulking as well. He tells Derek about having the "secret" affair with Ellis so long again, and just this moment he found out that his wife knew about it as well. Damn, he didn't know that she knew. Ah, the plot thickens. They talk about their respective predicaments and Derek admits that he doesn't want to do the surgery. Seeing that Burke's an honorable man and hell of a surgeon, he doesn't want to be responsible for frakking up his future. They both sulk in their misery and try and console each other.

In Burke's room, Bailey comes in and wonders how he is. Well, besides a bullet in his arm and a dry mouth he's perfect. He requests some ice chips, some drugs, and Christina. You can see the light bulb quickly form above her head. She wonders where her interns are. You know, since they're usually drooling like hungry wolves at the sight of a surgery. Off Burke's look of "Oh shite" she wonders what he did with them. He knows they're with Denny, doing something Izzie needed his help to do, but he doesn't say anything. The Nazi's on a warpath.

Busted!

In with Denny, they've got to get him some sort of a medicine that stops the heart and then restarts it a few seconds later. Meredith thinks she has it but isn't 100% sure, but they decide to give it to him anyway. I'm thinking they need a nurse in here. Well, she gives it to him, because really, how much more damage can they really do. He flatlines and they freak out a minute, but then his heart starts again, right in time for Bailey to talk in and wonder what the hell is going on. She sees that not only is Izzie pumping Denny's heart, but that the LVAD cord has been cut. She's a smart lady and pretty much figures out what's going on. She orders syph nurse to take over pumping for Izzie but she's like a rabid dog, nearly bites Olivia's head off. Bailey pulls George, Meredith and Christina outside and doesn't really ask them questions, just yells at them and orders Christina to go see Burke. George pouts a bit and Bailey yells at him some more before telling him to go get the lab results. She then pulls Meredith in with her.

Christina's made it to Burke's room and just stands outside of the room staring at him. She makes her way in and looks at his chart. In normal doctor/patient relationships, she has great bedside manner. Unfortunately, when the patient is your boyfriend, going over his chart and not bad mouthing him isn't exactly what he wants. She knows this is bad and offers him a few sighs. He tells her the situation and says he needs to know what to do. She just looks at him and eventually says that Bailey needs her and leaves her man high and dry. What the hell?

Bailey's in with Denny and the crew and wonders how he is. What a dumb question. How do you think he is? His girlfriend's standing next to him literally pumping his heart. He says he's fine though, that he went crazy and cut his own wire. Nice try dimples. Izzie's still wondering what's going on with his chances to get the heart. She must not care about that whole, "don't talk" rule of Bailey's. George comes in and gives Bailey the tests results as Izzie insists on knowing what they say. Bailey then tells her that she's not longer a doctor, she's a visitor until she tells her otherwise. Izzie finally lets Olivia take the pump and says, "He gets the heart though, right?". I love it.

I never realized how tiny she is. She's a full two heads shorter then him.

The Chief's walking down the hall when Bailey catches up with him. I'm truly touched that she doesn't just blab to him what happened, she starts speaking in hypotheticals. You know, hypothetically if one of the interns decided to cut Denny Duchette's LVAD line to make sure he got the heart because she's in love with him, what would he do. The Chief realizes this isn't hypothetical and says that the patient comes first, and if he is on the top of the list, not matter how he got there, he's entitled to the heart. But, he follows that up by telling her that she's going to have to name names and tell him who exactly did this because there will be severe consequences.

Alex finally does his job just as Dr. Hahn's leaving with the heart. She knows by the look on his face that UNOS has decided to give the heart to Seattle Grace. She's heartbroken, since the guy who's expecting it is a husband and father of a few kids and a really nice guy. Yeah, but does he have dimples? I doubt it! In a show of good faith, and because, really, who else was going to do it, Alex invites Hahn back to Seattle Grace to perform the surgery. Wow, I'm glad she has privileges there.

Derek is with Burke, and they're talking about the surgery. Actually, they're talking about fishing, and Derek thinks maybe that's what he can do instead of surgery. I know this is just friendly banter, but it's just wrong. Burke says he doesn't fish and Derek reminds him of the odds that the surgery will be successful and he'll get full use of his hands. When Burke says he'll just take up fishing, Derek reminds him that he doesn't fish. It's a cute scene and at the end they hit fists. Like Howie Mandel does with the contestants on Deal or No Deal.

It's surgery time. Dr. Hahn arrives with the heart and Denny's wheeled into surgery, with Izzie next to him. Unfortunately, since Bailey told her she's a visitor now, she's not able to go in. They share a nice moment of "I love yous" with the eyes and Bailey sees this. Burke is also wheeled in, and Derek seems to think he knows what Burke is thinking, that he'll return the favor one day. No, he was thinking, "Try not to kill me". They remove Denny's heart and realize how messed up it really was. Bailey says that it wouldn't have lasted another hour. Yeah, after Izzie frakked it up.

Derek removes the aneurysm from Burke's arm and tests out his reflex. Nothing. The Chief's there (why isn't he operating, he can do it with his eyes closed) and wonders out loud of the arm is paralyzed. Derek tries something in the nerve and still nothing. He says that they'll have to wake Burke up and have him move it himself to see if it's really paralyzed. This doesn't sound good. The Chief doesn't like it, says he's been through a lot already today. There's no other way Derek tells him, since he'd rather him go through the trauma of waking up during surgery then waking up and not being able to use his arm.

All the interns are sitting on the floor. Apparently Bailey gave them all a time out. Can't say I'm surprised. Christina's bitching about it and Izzie admits that this is all her fault, even though Christina's worried they'll all get kicked out of the program. The Chief rushes over to Christina and says that they need her in the operating room for Burke. She tries to get out of it, saying she's in a time out, but he's the Chief and tells her to hurry up. She leaves and Izzie spends some time trying to figure out if Denny really asked her to marry him. I'd be in shock too. George heard it, so at least she knows she's not hearing things. She finally gives up and says screw them and goes to check on Denny, leaving George and Meredith to talk. Yeah, this could be awkward.

Derek explains to Christina what's going on. They want her in there because they're going to wake him up, and he'll try and fight the tube in his throat. Also, since they need him to move his arm, they can't give him any medicine to numb his arm. So he's going to be in serious trouble. they start to wake him up.

Meredith and George are together and she thanks him for calling her about Izzie. She apologizes a few times, and he gets mad at her since she keeps apologizing for everything. Well, she did cry during sex, that's good for at least six months of "sorrys". He admits that he knew she didn't feel the same thing for him that he felt for her. He thought that one night with her was worth more than not having any with her. I bet he rethinks that now. He admits that he should be the one who's sorry because she didn't know any better. Hey, that's true. Frakkin' George. He finally tells her he's sorry for her crying when they're doing it since she's just a dumb ho that didn't know any better he was the love sick puppy who knew she only loved McDreamy.

Christina's crouched down next to Burke, trying to help him wake up. Doing a stellar job of it, until he wakes up that is. He starts to flail around and she can't take it. She actually steps away from him and turns her back! Derek and the Chief are yelling for her to get her ass back over there and comfort her man, but she's not moving.

In Denny's room the heart's been put in, and they're hoping it's going to start pumping on its own, but it doesn't. Alex and Bailey are in there and quite concerned. Dr. Hahn starts massaging it.

Poor Burke is still freaking out. It doesn't help matters much that Christina's on the other side of the room, just watching him. And now he's looking at her, wanting to be comforted and nothing. Finally, Derek grabs him and starts doing what Christina couldn't, comforting him and telling him what's going on to calm him down. He calms down enough to try and move his fingers, but alas, they don't move.

As they decide to start shocking Denny's heart, I'm thinking that either he's dead or he survives. Yes, I know that's not saying something profound, but here are my thoughts. He's going to die because I heard the guy's got another show, or he's going to survive because what kind of monster would make them go through all of that and not survive the surgery. Seriously. Alex looks up to the observation room and sees Izzie staring down at the action.

After some quick cuts between operating rooms, Burke's finally able to move his hand. Before he can finish the exercises though, Christina bolts. Seriously, what is her problem? Denny's heart still isn't beating. Dr. Hahn doesn't seem too concerned. She tells them to wait for it and I get a flash of that scene from the second Austin Powers movie where he's shaking her hand and her boo- ok, just see the movie, it's funny. Suddenly, there's a little movement in the heart. Then it starts pumping and beating and I'm crying at this point, loving life, and dimples and Izzie drops down in the observation room, having a moment of happy crying herself. Damn I love this show.

I'M A TURD

I know, I know. There are so many shows that I'm trying to finish doing the recaps for. So many of you probably don't care anymore, especially the reality shows. The hippies won The Amazing Race and Aras won on Survivor. Ray and Yolanda showed that black people don't like snow. I could have told you that. After 22 years in Baltimore I high tailed it outta there for the sunny no snow California. Yeah yeah, I know it snows in California, but only in the mountains. And I don't drive up there unless I'm promised 'smores and and/or good snow tubing conditions. I drive a Saturn for God's sake. Anyway, I was mildy happy the hippies won. I was just glad MoJo didn't. My what a difference thirteen weeks can make.

On Survivor I was really hoping Terry would pull it out. Ah, I mean pull it off. No, that's not good either. Win. I was hoping Terry would win. Unfortunately, weird boobie girl Danielle won the final immunity challenge and chose Aras to go with her to the final two. The messed up part about it was she was the worst player ever, and she gets a check for at least $100,000 for coming in second. I couldn't stand her. I'm glad Aras won though, he's hot.

As for Grey's, 24, LOST and Prison Break, I'm really going to work on them this week. I'm also going to tell you all about the shows that'll be coming up in the next week or two that I think you should check out, including The Amazing Race meets Da Vinci Code show on NBC Treasure Hunters! Also, I've been watching some pilots recently for shows coming out this fall and I'll tell you which ones I think are worth your time and which ones I can't wait to see. Until then, I leave you with this...

I know this picture isn't from an episode, but truly, do you care? I surely don't.
