The fall finales have gone and left, and I'll be talking about a few of them in a bit, but now that most shows are in repeats, let me just say a few words about the ones you should check out while you have the time and Tivo space.
MEN IN TREES (ABC)
This to me is the #1 new show. It's smart, funny, charming, and don't let the fact that Anne Heche is in it deter you. She's surprisingly great. And the supporting cast in top notch with a bunch of adorable relationships. And don't forget it's from the creators of Sex and the City, so you'll get it.
HEROES (NBC)
Okay, maybe this is the #1 new show. I don't know, it's a tie. MIT and this are so different from one another but they both have me nodding my head and tearing up in satisfaction. I've watched more of my share of episodes that made me say, "Bad ass!" at the end. I believe they'll be a marathon at some point. I know Sci Fi is having one in January before the second half of the season starts.
UGLY BETTY (ABC)
I was so excited about this show and although it's waned a little, I still endorse it. Betty's a little too ugly and I keep wanting her to pull her hair back, out of her face because that would do a lot for her, but the show is still charming and I would recommend you check it out, just to get a taste of it.
I SHOULDN'T BE ALIVE (Discovery)
If you have Discovery HD you'd do yourself better to watch it in that, but if not, this show is brilliant and nerve racking without really being heartbreaking, which it could be.
THE UNIT (CBS)
I can't say enough good things about this show, really. It skews very male, but if you have a male in your house, or you are male, you should try at least one episode. It's only slightly serialized and you'll be able to catch up from the "previously on" at the beginning of each show.
JERICHO (CBS)
Talk about serialized, besides Lost, there's almost no other show that's as serialized as this one. But, at the same time, what other show makes me want the world to end more then this one?
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (SCI FI)
If you can catch this one in reruns, do it. It's a well written show that's well acted, awesome special effects, and really, how could Rolling Stone, AFI, The Peabody's and almost every other mainstream critic be so wrong?
