After a week like last's, with the bomb and all, I was wondering how Grey's would face the next week's pressure to be so good again. Well, they did it. And finally the Neilson audience is seeing what I've seen for awhile now, that this blows that Desperate show out of the water. I'm glad everyone's finally agreeing. What I did find interesting though is there's no mention of the bomb or the poor guy who blew up. Of course there are tons of lines in this show that I just can't wait to post as the "Quote of the Week" but if I posted every one no other shows could get in.
This one starts with a rarely seen thing, Christina having a good time. She's rocking out on her headset in Burke's apartment, brushing her teeth. Burke comes in after what looks like a long, hard, sweaty run (yowza), and when Christina turns around and sees him, she stops dancing. After a minute they start dancing together. Burke obviously studied way too hard in college because his rhythm is way off. Still very cute though. While they're dancing Christina's cell phone rings. Burke answers it and I'm fairly sure it's going to be someone who doesn't know they're together. Then I wonder who that could be since they're "out" at work. He hangs up and tells Christina that it was her landlord calling to tell her that her apartment got flooded. Uh oh, he didn't know she still had an apartment. Quite frankly, I forgot about it too.
At the nursing home Meredith is visiting her mom. I know she has Alzheimer’s but I didn't know you just blurt stuff out. She tells Meredith that she was going at it all night in the on call room. Whoa. Not something you wanna hear Mom say. I'm hoping she wasn't talking about the night before with Great Uncle Sal in the broom closet. We know Ellis thinks it's about twenty or so years earlier, so I'm wondering if she's gonna blurt out to Meredith that it was the Chief she was in there with. Meredith is a bit embarrassed about her mother's candid comment, and her curiosity peaks when Ellis mentions that it wasn't her husband, Thatch, that she was in there with. She tells Meredith, I guess thinking she's a girlfriend or something, that she thinks Thatch won't leave because he wants her to kick him out. Of course this causes Meredith some grief.
"Don't worry, black men know how to treat a lady"
At the hospital Meredith and Christina are venting to each other. Christina's bitching about Burke finding out about her other apartment and Meredith says one of the funniest lines in the show, "My mommy's a filthy whore." Haha! She's not, she just has jungle fever, Christina can relate. Izzie and Alex talk and she tells him that she doesn't want to hook up with him again. He's giving her "dirty eyes".
"Do you think we can both fit into this locker?"
Their first case during rounds is a lung cancer patient. Burke is doing the surgery and the man knows that there's only a 25% chance of survival. He seems to be in good spirits, considering. Burke and Meredith work on the case after Burke gives Christina an "eat sh** and die" look. In the hallway Dr. Bailey's there with her newborn. He's totally adorable. Izzie does some cutesy talk to him and I almost puke. The baby's daddy is getting out of the hospital soon and everyone is happy about that. Before they can get too sappy Bailey starts barking off some orders. I hope she comes back soon, I love her.
I can't say anything funny about this kid, it would just be wrong. He does have a lot of courage.
The next patient they see is a teenage boy. He has some sort of disease, I think they called it Lionitis, although I'm sure that's not the technical term. If you've ever seen that movie Mask, it's sorta like that. Basically it's tumors on his bones that cause a disfigurement of the face. The poor kid's been having some problems with nausea and headaches and they think it may be due to the tumors growing inward and pushing on the brain. Christina tries not to stare at him but she can't help it. I mean, really, who could? The kid has a great personality and tells her to just imagine that he's a lion, that that sometimes helps. Very sweet kid.
Out in admin a hot guy approaches Meredith. He's played by the sexy Eric Dane who hasn't looked this hot in a long long time. Anyway, he hits on her hard core. McDreamy and Addison both separately seen him and McDreamy don't look too happy. He approaches the man and punches him in the face. Later, the Chief's not too happy about Derek punching this guy out in his hospital. Addison says that this is Mark Sloane, McDreamy's best friend who he found her doing before he left New York. The Chief considers it for a minute and wonders if Derek put his weight behind the punch. He did, so he's happy.
Two words... YUM! MEEE
Meredith is cleaning Mark's wound and he's explaining to her what happened. He tells her that he's heard of her all the way out in New York and she says that his reputation also precedes him. He says that Derek walked in on him and Addison, going at it, both naked and all he did was walk out of the room. On the other hand, Derek just sees him talking to Meredith and belts him one. Maybe it's a delayed reaction. Who am I kidding, he loves Meredith, that's the difference. As Meredith's about to sew him up, he laughs at her and takes the needle and thread. The interns watch as he sutures himself since he's a plastic surgeon. The girls make up a good name for him, McSteamy. Ain't that the truth.
In the cancer patient's room he's setting up a tripod. Meredith walks in and she asks about it. He says that he's making goodbye videos and she's touched. She offers to hold the camera for him. He starts off, talking to the woman he loved in college. Everything seems nice and peachy until he calls her a dirty whore and berates her for the way she treated him and hopes she has ugly kids. Damn. Meredith is surprised.
With the Lionitis guy Mark thinks he'll be able to do plastic surgery and remove the tumors. This causes Derek to get a bit territorial with his patient. He takes a piss on the kid's bed. Then he runs and finds Meredith and takes a piss on her. Actually, he just doesn't want Mark to get the kid's hopes up.
Down in the pit Izzie and George get a woman who was in a car crash. The paramedics bring her in and immediately she starts thrashing and moaning. She has a spontaneous orgasm. Izzie's a bit turned on by this and they ask her how long this has been going on. She says it's been going on for a few months. Addison talks to her with Izzie and George still there. They're both intrigued as to why she would want to stop them. I would think it'd get in the way of normal life. I also wonder why she can't hold back a bit. Why she has to scream and moan for each one. I mean who knows, I guess everyone is different. They must be really good. The woman's father gets there and of course she's embarrassed. They call the orgasms "episodes" and she has one as they're talking.
Over with Meredith, she's still holding the camera for this poor cancer guy. He's still yelling about everyone who did him wrong. Looks like he's made quite a few tapes for people that have pissed him off in his life. Meredith stops rolling and questions him about doing this. He says that for his whole life he never told people how he felt and that he bottled it up. There's a lesson in there I know it. Later Meredith approaches the Chief. She asks him if he knows anything about why her parents split up. He plays dumb and says he doesn't. She believes him.
George and Izzie are talking to Christina and Alex and mention the orgasm lady. They run off to see her. When they get there Addison is examining her. When she notices the group watching she pulls the curtain on them.
In the Chief's office Derek and Mark are arguing about doing the lion boy's surgery. As much as the Chief doesn't like Mark, he thinks it's a good idea to do the surgery.
Later, Mark and Addison meet up. She's pissed he came for her and he tells her that he still loves her. She looks torn, and honestly, who wouldn't be. Mark wants to know if Derek knows that after he left New York, that she stayed with him. Of course he doesn't know that. Mark says that Derek's not in love with her, that he's in love with Meredith. Smart guy this McSteamy.
All the interns meet for lunch and talk about the cases. George compliments Meredith repeatedly about how nice she looks or smells. She just ignores him. I mean seriously, a simple, 'thanks' would be fine, she doesn't say anything. I know she's distracted by McDreamy and McSteamy, and honestly, who wouldn't be, but come on, a quick thank you doesn't take that long. George bitches to Izzie about how he grew his hair out to impress Meredith and that he's frustrated things aren't working out. Izzie confides in him about waking a sleeping beast and basically saying that if you haven't done the nasty for awhile you don't miss it, but once you start, damn. Of course George is a man so he doesn't get that, but hey, I feel ya girl.
Back in the lion boy's room his parents don't want to do the surgery. They think doing two surgeries is too risky. Mark says that he can do the surgery right after Derek finishes his and that way he'll only have to go under once. Lion boy begs his parents to let him do the surgery and even though they see a beautiful boy, he wants others to see it as well. They agree to the surgery.
Meredith and Derek have a conversation later about why he thinks Addison cheated. He admits that he was absent and that's what probably drove her away. She wonders if having kids would have made a difference. Those would have been some cute little red headed babies that's for sure.
In with the orgasm lady, Izzie wonders if it would be so bad to have 7 or 8 orgasms a day. The lady asks her if she ever had that dream where she went to high school naked. Of course, who hasn't? I mean, just because I haven't doesn't mean I'm weird right? Right!? She tells Izzie that she just wants to wake up from the dream. Yeah, I guess that would be odd to be at the bank and all of the sudden break out. You could make it fun though, 'Yes! Yes! I love cashing checks! Yes!'
Burke and Meredith talk a bit and she wonders if she should send out the tapes the cancer man made. He tells her that she should send them, otherwise she's a liar. He asks Meredith if she knew about Christina having the apartment and she says yes. Awkward.
In the surgery with the lion boy things don't go so well. He arrests and as much as Derek tries to save him, they don't. Mark's not even able to do his part of the surgery. When Alex and Christina are cleaning him up they come up with a great plan, to do the reconstruction surgery anyway. They approach Mark about it and he agrees. They do the surgery on him and fix his face. Later, the parents visit the boy and love what's been done.
On a good note, the cancer guy survives. He wonders to Meredith and Burke where his tapes are. She hasn't sent them, not that she wasn't going to. He's happy to see them and she wonders if he wants her to throw them away. He doesn't , he wants her to send them. Okay is this the reason HMOs are so expensive, they have to send out patients' mail?
Dear ol' Dad
George sees Meredith and can tell she's stressed. He asks if she wants to go out and get a drink. Again, she ignores him. I mean, Meredith's not a bitch but damn she's deaf. She admits that she doesn't want to have to make any tapes before she dies. Of course George doesn't get it. She looks something up in the yellow pages (white pages) and goes off. She then arrives at a house and knocks on the door. A man answers and she calls him 'dad'. I'm guessing this is Thatch. She hasn't seen him in over twenty years. She just wants to know why he didn't fight for her mother. Wonders why he didn't try and work things out with her, and just left. She tells him that she knows about the affair. He really doesn't have any answers and wonders if there's anything she needs from him, sincerely concerned. She says no and leaves.
At the hospital Addison and Derek are leaving in the elevator. As if we couldn't predict it, Mark gets on, causing some obvious tension. Derek and Mark argue and Mark wonders how he could forgive Addison and not him. Derek says that he hasn't forgiven her. Ouch. Derek storms out and leave Mark and Addison alone. Mark wants her to admit to him that she still loves him. To prove it he wants her to meet him at Joe's. Where do I know this plot point from? Hmm, I wonder.
Is that milk in the front? Ewe.
Christina is in Burke's bed eating Chinese food. We know she's a slob, so I'm waiting for some food to fall on the bed. Burke comes in and goes off on her. He calls her a slob, tells her she's a pain in the ass, basic things a man tells you when he's in love with you. Then he goes on about how great he is and tells her that even though she sucks, he loves her. She tells him that she just gave her apartment away and he walks out. I think they just made up.
Izzie's with the orgasm lady. They're doing some sort of surgery on her to "cure" her. She's worried she won't ever have "episodes" again. Izzie tells her not to worry, that she'll be able to have orgasms. Speaking of those, we see George and Izzie later and he realizes she's fed the beast. She tells him twice. Man, doctors really have a lot of down time. George complains to Izzie that Meredith doesn't seem to hear him and Izzie tells him to make her. Izzie then goes off with Alex to go for round three.
The Chief is visiting Ellis and tells her that he thinks Meredith knows about them. She thinks it's silly because Meredith is still a little girl. He's worried she's going to find out it was him who was hittin' that.
Meredith, meanwhile is at Joe's drowning her sorrows. Mark comes in and tells her that he's waiting for Addison to walk through the door to declare her love for him. Meredith's been down this road. We then see McDreamy in his trailer and we pan over to the other room where Addison is sitting.
I have to admit, I'm a bit disturbed by this
At the house later George comes to Meredith's room. He starts talking about how much he cares for her, and that he'd never lie to her and basically do all of the horrible things McDreamy and other guys have done to her in the past, and that he just wants to love her. She looks at him for a minute and then takes off his shirt!!! This is what I love about this show. Any regular show would have him pine for years before he even though he had a chance. To take it this way, so quickly is a sign that this show is cutting edge and is willing to take risks, like blowing people up. Luckily, unlike most shows that "Jump the Shark" Grey's has the writing chops to back it up.
