Just a few words on this show. Last night I watched the episode I Tivo'd on Monday and although I've seen the show before, realized after this episode what a funny show it is. CBS has really hit the mark with comedies. King of Queens, Two and a Half Men and the new show, Out of Practice, along with How I Met Your Mother, are gems.
How I Met Your Mother particularly though. The show is about Ted, a twenty something single guy who lives with his best friend and his fiancee. His other womanizing friend, Barney, is played by Neil Patrick Harris, in what I think is his best role ever. I mean, how can you top Doogie, I know. The four friends usually end up in their neighborhood bar with a new addition to their circle, Robin, a news anchor and Ted's secret crush. He and Robin tried to get together at the beginning of the series, but she just wasn't ready and sorta broke Ted's heart.
In this episode, a continuation of last week's, Ted's gone stag to a friend's wedding. Robin was supposed to be his date, and he thought he might try and seal the deal with her again. Unfortunately, she got a call to be the weekend anchor and had to ditch him. So here he is, at a wedding, as Barney hits on a cute bridesmaid and his two engaged friends enjoy the amazing cake. The next morning Ted comes out of his room and announces to Marshall and Lily that he had the best night of his life. They go on and on about the cake.
We see a flashback at the wedding. He sees a cute woman from across the room and eventually the two of them start talking. They're obviously having a great time although the worst thing about hooking up with someone at a wedding is you never see them again. Tell me about it. She suggests they just share the night together, no names, no attachments, just hang out and have fun. She decides she wants to be called Buttercup. He wants to be called something funny, I don't remember. Cue Barney to come in, like he always does, and say something stupid. He approaches Ted and keeps calling him Ted. The girl just laughs and tells him that her name is Victoria. They slip out of the wedding, stealing the bouquet. Upstairs Ted plays the piano while she tap dances. When she sits down next to him he tries to kiss her. She says that the best part of a kiss is the anticipation and asks that for the rest of the night they just "almost" kiss. She also takes off her shoes and does a cartwheel in the hallway.
Marshall and Lily can't believe what a sweet story this is becoming and insists he find out who she is, although they don't want him to call the bride who's on her honeymoon. He does anyway and Marshall tells him to ask about the bakery they got the cake from. The bride says that there was no one there named Victoria. The mystery deepens and the group tries to figure out who she was. They come up with crazy ideas to figure out who she is, but nothing works. They call Barney who calls the bridesmaid he hooked up with the night before to see if she knows who she is. She doesn't, but asks what shoes the girl was wearing. Brown with white snowflakes on them. Ted knows because he was holding them during her cartwheel. Later, Robin and Lily talk. We find out that Robin got the substitute weekend anchor job and they're excited. Lily tells Robin Ted's story to which Robin is amazed. She says she knows the girl is. She tells Lily about making it to the wedding after all, and looking for Ted. Unfortunately she found him with Victoria, about to kiss. She runs into the bathroom and cries. Of course this makes Lily think that she has feelings for Ted. Robin realizes that she might. Lily wants to know what she's going to do? Tell Ted about the mystery girl? Or tell Ted that she has feelings for him?
At their local bar Robin tells Ted she has something to say to him. At this moment the bride calls and says that she's sorry she hung up on him before. Back to a flashback of the night before as Robin cries in the bathroom. Victoria comes in and tries to comfort her. Robin notices her shoes and thanks her. Marshall asks Ted, while he's on the phone with the bride, to get the name of the bakery. The bride tells him that it was "Buttercup" bakery. In the bathroom Victoria tells Robin that she made the cake. Now Ted knows who she is and where she is. Robin is heartbroken, realizing Ted's going to find the girl. Lily wonders to Robin, in front of Ted, if there's something she wants to tell him. Robin just says to go get her. When Barney, Lily, Marshall and Ted pull up to the bakery Ted debates on going in. He says that if he goes in then that one perfect night will be ruined. He debates for a few seconds until Barney yells for him to "Crap or get off the pot!" Ted goes in and when Victoria sees him she runs into his arms and they kiss.
Barney
This was such a cute story with such a cute ending. If you haven't checked out the show yet, please do. It's hilarious and I hope Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan both get nominated for comedy supporting roles during next year's award season.
