TO SHOOT OR NOT TO SHOOT

The good news is that Jack has the recording. The bad news is that the President of the United States wants him dead and everybody's stupid enough to listen to him. Everybody but those who have brains in their heads and know something's up.

On the plane, in the cockpit with a gun on Evans, the guy Henderson gave the tape to, Jack calls Karen to tell her he has the recording. She and Bill are in the holding room and Jack's afraid that someone will grab him the minute the plane lands. Bill tells him not to worry, that they'll have a team get him before he's picked up but the President's men.

Meanwhile, Curtis goes into the clinic at CTU and tells Audrey that her father was found, alive. Who called that? Yeah, it was me. Of course this makes her happy. Karen then calls Curtis and tells him to go to the Van Nuys Airport and pick Jack up. Man, is the Van Nuys Airport sponsoring this show or what? Anyway, she tells Curtis to make sure to get Jack and the evidence since Logan's peeps will be there to apprehend Jack.

Logan's talking to the mysterious Graham and wonders how in the hell he can order a diplomatic plane shot down. Graham tells him that he and the other guys in the room have figured out how to get around that whole, killing innocent people thing. They're going to send a distress signal from the plane to make it look like it's being hijacked. I don't know why this has to be false, because technically, it has been hijacked. Logan doesn't know if he wants to order all of these people killed, I mean, if they were Russian, that'd be okay.

Out of the CTU hold comes Karen and Bill, who actually make a handsome couple. But that's beside the point. Miles sees them coming out and his little ego gets hurt because he wonders what's going on that they're together. Karen's not as dumb as Miles and doesn't want to or have the time to tell him what's going on. We know this is going to bite her in the ass later.

Surprise Surprise, Mike comes in and tells Logan that they've received a distress call from Jack's plane, saying it's been hijacked. Again, not really news to us, but okay. Apparently this means that it may target a facility on the ground. Logan and Mike get on the video conference with some Admiral. The Admiral thinks they should bring the plane down. Logan does his best impersonation of someone who cares as Mike tries to insist that Jack would never use the plane to crash into something. I don't blame the Admiral for wanting to shoot the plane down. He doesn't know Jack. He doesn't know that Jack would never do that, unless it meant saving even more people. Mike tries to remind Logan of Jack's intentions, but Logan insists that the Admiral is right, and tells him to shoot the plane down, at which point Mike's jaw drops to the ground.

At CTU, there's a bulletin that Karen intercepts that says the President has ordered the plane shot out of the sky. Can I be on their mailing lists, this would be good information to know for the future. She calls Jack and Jack asks Bill to find a stretch of the road that they can land on. Apparently they need a buttload of runway. Since it's so late at night and there was a curfew, Jack's confident no one will be on the road. Finally, Chloe's brought in as Mile looks over in confusion. She goes into the situation room and Karen and Bill give her the download on what's going on. They want her to find out when the F-18 will get to Jack and shoot him out of the sky.

Jack goes out to the flight attendant, who's no longer afraid of Jack, she must have heard what went down in the cockpit, and tells her to get the passengers ready for an emergency landing. Bill gives Jack a stretch of road that's slightly shorter then what they need and Evans doesn't think it's such a good idea. If he wasn't landing the plane I can tell Jack would beat him with his gun butt. I want to. Karen then calls Curtis and tells him where Jack's planning to land.

Logan is patched into the pilot's radio just as Chloe realizes the jet is nearly on Jack. She says that there's no way to land the plane without getting hit by the missile. Well duh. Jack makes Evans descend faster, even though he will probably not be able to pull up because of the steep dive. Jack tells him to just do it and he does. The passengers are screaming in the back as the plane shakes and Jack tells Evans he can see the freeway. Unfortunately, Evans can't level off the plane because they're going in too steep. Jack has him lower the landing gear.

The F-18 tells Logan and the Admiral that the landing gear is down and that they're planning to land on the freeway. Since this means they're not going to fly the plane to the retreat and take out that little a**hole, the Admiral says that they can have the fighter stand down. Logan ignores him and says to fire on them anyway. This makes Mike wonder what he's doing, since the plane is obviously not a danger. Finally, with nothing else to do, Logan tells the fighter not to fire on the plane. He does order the Marines to meet the plane and get Jack as soon as they land.

With Jack's help, the plane levels out enough to land and is skidding at 300 miles an hour down the freeway. I don't know how fast it was going, but it was fast. In true action movie fashion, the plane comes to rest just feet away from an overpass. Bill tells Jack that Curtis is going to be there soon. Jack yells for all of the passengers to exit the front of the plane as he goes out the emergency exit on the wing. Still the safest place to fly! He gets to the ground and runs to the side of the road, just as the military pull up to the plane.

Logan gets a call from Graham who's pissed his little plan didn't work. Logan tells him that the Marines will get him, and not to worry. Oh you better worry.

Jack sees Curtis' truck on the other side of the freeway and hurries over to him. He hops in the back seat and they take off. Unfortunately, the Marines have already created a roadblock ("a Roadblock is a task that only one person can perform", sorry, just thinkin' about The Race). They pull up to it and the Marine tells Curtis to get out. Curtis explains who he is and tells them that they're looking for Jack as well. The Marine insists that they be detained, but Curtis talks his way out of it and they're let go. I love Curtis.

In the bonehead move of the night, Miles calls Karen and asks her what's going on, seeing that Bill and Chloe are wanted for helping a known fugitive. Karen agrees to meet with him and they talk in a corridor. She tells him what's going on, about the evidence that implicates Logan in today's events. Miles of course tries to tell her that she hasn't even heard the recording, so how does she know that Jack is telling the truth. Seriously, I want him dead. An agent interrupts them with the important news that Bierko is being transferred to jail or wherever. She asks Miles to keep this between them. Fat chance of that.

Karen goes to where they're moving Bierko. She says some standard thing, "Bierko you are now being transferred to blah blah blah'. She signs a few papers and he does his best to look defeated and hurt with a huge bandage over the side of his face from when Jack rescued him from the gas company fire. They take him to a van and load him in. Because CTU has the worst background check system in the history of mankind, Bierko gives the driver of the van a nod, obviously in cahoots with him.

Logan's depressed, and why shouldn't he be. He sucks, his wife hates him, and he's about to be outted as a traitor. Graham's calling him on his cell phone and he refuses to pick it up. How come no one's using Evelyn's little listening to device she used on him earlier? Oh, and speaking of Evelyn, did Henderson kill her and her daughter? That's messed up.

Jack's finally back at CTU and gives the tape to Chloe, telling her to prepare it to be streamed to the Attorney General and some more important people. Jack immediately takes off to medical to see Audrey. They kiss, eck, and he tells her that he has the evidence. Then stupidity she says that it's over. Girl, it's never over. They sit there, looking at each other in happiness.

Logan goes to his office and takes out a wooden box. Inside is a pistol. Thank the Lords of Kobol he's going to shoot himself. He calls Graham and tells him about Jack escaping from the Marines. Somehow, Graham knows about a call between the Attorney General and CTU. Logan's still thinking all that he's done has been for the best interest of the country. Graham mentions that a murder trial for a sitting President would suck. He winks through the phone. Logan assures him that Graham and his friends won't be implicated in anything and Graham believes him for some reason and they hang up. He loads his gun and I'm ready for some fireworks! Make sure to do it through the mouth because you can still live if you do it to the temple.

Martha's sitting watching the news when Logan comes in. Oh crap, please don't tell me he's going to kill her. He starts talking about how sorry he is and I'm getting a serious LOST flashback. She doesn't really accept his apology, just tells him that he's a bastard and a really good liar. Upset, he goes back to his office. Finally, I'm ready to see some blood. Right before he does it the phone rings. Guess who it is? That stupid frak Miles. He tells Logan about the tape, and that he felt it was his duty to say something. Miles also tells him that he'll take care of it for him. Logan gives Miles his private number and tells him to call and keep him updated on what's going on. Of course Logan tells Miles that he owes him one and Miles gets one of those snide looks on his face that you just want to smack off. Logan then puts the gun away.

Back at CTU, Miles goes into the situation room where Chloe's working on setting the tape up. He leans over her and starts asking her questions. In his hand is something that's flashing a big red light next to the tape recorder and I'm wondering why she can't see it. Unfortunately she just says something rude to him and he leaves, after apparently wiping the recording off the tape. Frakkin bastard!
